Traditional Labor & Employment Associate - New York, NY or Philadelphia, PA
Job Description:
Practice Area: Traditional Labor & Labor Management Relations
Experience: 3–7 years of dedicated traditional labor experience
Bar Requirement: Admission in NY or PA (depending on location)
For an ambitious traditional labor attorney, the mid-to-senior associate years are critical. It is the window where you either continue sitting second-chair, or transition into running your own arbitrations and driving strategy before the Board. We are representing an Am Law 50 national powerhouse seeking a partner-track associate ready to take on immediate, high-level client-facing responsibility in a practice that prioritizes genuine labor management relations over standard employment litigation.
The Work
This role sits within a highly specialized, national team focused on the complexities of union-management dynamics. You will skip the generic document review and step directly into active advocacy:
- First- and Second-Chair Advocacy: Running labor arbitrations and directly handling witnesses and arguments.
- NLRB Representation: Prosecuting and defending unfair labor practice (ULP) charges before the National Labor Relations Board.
- Strategic Union Relations: Advising major employers on collective bargaining agreement negotiations, contract administration, and union avoidance strategies.
- Complex Unionized Litigation: Assisting with high-stakes wage and hour class and collective actions specifically involving unionized workforces.
Who This Is For
You are an experienced labor associate (3 to 7 years PQE) with deep roots in traditional labor law. You understand the nuances of the NLRA and feel comfortable advising corporate clients under pressure.
Widening the Funnel: While the core requirement is traditional labor experience, this position is particularly well-suited for a mid-to-senior associate currently at a boutique who feels limited by their current firm's geographic reach or client size, or an attorney at a regional firm looking to transition their labor skillset to a massive, national enterprise platform without losing the tight-knit, collaborative team feel.
The Platform
The firm is defined by a true cross-office, collaborative culture. Rather than operating in isolated geographic silos, you will work seamlessly with national practice leaders across a multi-city footprint. This is a transparent partner-track role backed by an institutional commitment to associate development, meaning you will have the administrative resources, elite client base, and mentorship required to actively build a practice. A predictable, balanced hybrid framework (3 days in-office) ensures you retain face-time with partners while maintaining professional autonomy.
Compensation and Benefits
The firm offers a highly competitive national compensation structure:
- Anticipated Salary Range: $245,000 to $325,000 (commensurate with location, class year, and specific experience).
- Bonuses: Merit-based rewards including productivity and discretionary annual bonuses.
- Total Rewards: A comprehensive corporate benefits package featuring premium health, life, accident, and disability insurance, alongside a robust 401(k) retirement plan.
